  • Garden Sprayer, Paint Brush & Rags

Steps

  1. First of all, clean as well as sand your cypress wood which is needed to prepare your wood for wood sealer or varnish. Just use soap, water and a scrub brush for your wood that is massively soiled or clean your wood with the help of a chemical wood cleaner product.
  2. If your cypress wood was previously stained or sealed then remove the finish with sanding or a chemical wood stripper before you apply the varnish on the wood.
  3. If your wood already has a finish of varnish or sealant and the wood is still in good condition then you just need to sand lightly for sealing or varnishing process.
  4. Now you need to clean any dust and debris which comes after the sanding process and then allow your cypress wood to dry entirely before proceeding to next step.
  5. Next you need to apply the varnish or any oil finish. Oil finishes need to be applied liberally with the help of a garden sprayer.
  6. After that, you need to let the applied oil finish soak into your cypress wood for the time according to the product guidance and then you need to wipe off any extra oil with the help of a rag.
  7. Now it's time to start varnishing. The varnish will be applied with the help of a paintbrush in many thin coats and then allow each thin coat to dry before applying the next coat and then you need to sand gently betwixt coats.
  8. You need to apply up to 8 coats for best protection and a smooth, lustrous finish.
  9. Next, reapply the varnish on a legitimate basis, as needed. Reapply on a regular basis, as needed. Oil finishes also need re-application annually to avert the natural cypress color from fading.
  10. The varnish will develop a chalky appearance when it needs to be reapplied because the varnish last for 2-3 years.

  1. Tip: In order to get the best durability and weather resistance, you need to apply the epoxy sealer to your cypress wood before you varnish it. You just need a foam roller in order to apply at least 3 coats. Apply each coat while the early coat is still wet or sand lightly betwixt each coat if the applied sealer epoxy has hardened. Sand gently before applying the varnish because it will adhere better to your applied epoxy finish.
  2. Warning: The epoxy sealers, oil finished and the varnished all contain volatile organic compounds which are very hazardous if snort over a long period of time. Use all these liquids only in a well-ventilated area and always try to wear rubber gloves and protective clothing to avert any skin damage.
