How To Clean Cement Off Aluminium Windows: Easy Process To Get Rid Of Cement Stain From Aluminum Window

Easy Process To Get Rid Of Cement Stains From Aluminum Window

Aluminum type windows generally don't need much maintenance. However, it is highly possible that your aluminum window will get damaged if materials such as cement, stucco, mortar or harsh cleaning agents come into contact with the aluminum. You should be extra careful when building to make sure that cement is dry before installing windows and that the window does not sit flush against building materials like cement or brick. Flashing should also distract water from channeling onto the windows, due to the fact that the chemicals in cement can run down the window. If there is cement stain on your aluminum windows, it is important to be careful when removing it in order to make sure that you don't damage the finish.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubber Gloves
  • Bon Ami Or Zud Cleaner
  • Microfiber Cloth Or Sponge
  • Denatured Alcohol Or Xylene
  • Nylon Cleaning (Mildly Abrasive Only)
  • Eye Protection
  • Mild Cleaning Solution
  • Everbrite Protective Coating (Optional)
  • Ladder

Step 1: Clean The Windows As Quickly As Possible

First of all, you need to clean the windows immediately after repair or construction. Rinse the windows before you are going to apply any type of cleaner. Start cleaning the window at the top of the house or building and work your way down. Start by applying a mild detergent (safer for bare hands) and make sure to only use stronger cleaners if required. Follow or go through the instructions from the cleaning product manufacturer.

Step 2: Scrub The Metal With A Small Nylon Cleaning Pad

If you still notice any cement stain on your aluminum window frame, then you need to scrub the metal with the help of a small nylon cleaning pad, but make sure not to use steel wool. Saturate the pad using a clean water or the mild cleaner. Start scrubbing at the top of the window, by applying steady pressure, and make sure to work in the direction of the "grain" of the metal. Do not let the cleaner dry on the metal before rinsing completely. If the cement stain is still present, you need to use non-scratch cleaners such as Zud or BonAmi and the nylon pad in order to scrub the surface. Again, rinse completely.

Step 3: Apply Denatured Alcohol Or Xylene To The Aluminum

Finally, apply or spread denatured alcohol or xylene to the aluminum. This, in turn, will help you in getting rid of any fingerprints and residue. Apply Everbrite protective coating to the aluminum after cleaning it thoroughly. The coating will help safeguard the aluminum from future run off from the chemicals in the cement.
