Step By Step Instructions

  • Remove The Door Handles: First of all, you need to remove the door handles from your door. You just need to use your screwdriver in order to remove all fasteners and then pull the 2 halves of your door handles away from the surface of your store. Set all fasteners aside because you need to use them again.
  • Varnish Or Paint Remover: Next, you need to fill a glass jar with varnish remover or paint remover. After that, place your door handles mildly into your jar and then seal it properly. Allow your door handles to remain in your jar for 2-3 hours so that any old paint can be removed from your handles.
  • Dish Detergent: After 2-3 hours now you need to take your door handle out of your jar. Next, you need to add a small amount of dish detergent on your wet rag and then use your rag to wipe away any paint and dirt from your door handle. After that, scrub with the help of a toothbrush to loosen any stubborn paint or other deposits from the handle.
  • Monetary Brass Cleaner: Now, you need to apply a small amount of monetary brass cleaner to your rag. Wipe your door handle with the help of your rag in order to remove any leftover tarnish or contaminants.
  • Scrub Your Doorknob: After that, it is time to scrub your doorknob with the help of steel wool(very fine) to loosen any stubborn deposits. Dip your handle in wet soapy water solution, then continue your scrubbing process as long as all the remaining tarnish and other deposits have been completely removed from your handle.
  • Wipe Your Door Handle & Reinstall: Now, you need to wipe your door handle with your rag in order to dry it completely and give shiny & polished look to your brass door handles. Finally, you have to reinstall your door handle on your door and it will look very shine again.

Tips And Warning

  • You can easily make your own homemade brass cleaner. Simply mix a small amount of vinegar, salt & flour in your bowl and then you need to apply this mixture to your brass door handles by using any soft & damp cloth to remove tough tarnish or other deposits.
  • Treat your brass hardware with the help of paste wax or lemon oil once a month to avert tarnishing and maintain the brass natural shine.
  • Always try to work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area when you are going to handle paint or varnish removal products.
