How To Clean And Sanitize A Used Couch: 2 Easy Methods To Deep Clean Used Couch

2 Easy Methods To Deep Clean & Sanitize A Used Couch

If you want to deep clean & sanitize a used couch at home yourself then you just need to follow all the given steps for your selected type of couch. Below are the two methods to deep clean and sanitize the used upholstery and leather couches, follow the steps of both the methods carefully:

Method 1: Upholstery

Here are the steps for this process:
  • First of all, you need to vacuum your entire couch by using the upholstery attachment which comes with most vacuum cleaners. Be sure that the back, cushions, arms, sides and the skirt of the couch are vacuumed. Remove & vacuum the underside of the cushions & the seat of your couch.
  • Now you need to attach all the crevice tool on the vacuum cleaner. Use your tool to clean all the corners & crevices of your couch.
  • Now you can add steam cleaning solution to the steam cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions, also add water as indicated.
  • You can also use a home model of your steam cleaner or you can rent the cleaner from your local grocery store. Grocery store models tend to be more powerful & also recommended for heavily-soiled couches.
  • Now you need to clean the couch by using the upholstery attachment for the steam cleaner. Start your work with the removed cushions, pull all the trigger to apply all the cleaning solution & then run your upholstery attachment over it to remove the moisture from it.
  • Repeat the above process over each of your cushions & then you have to move on to the rest of your couch. In order to get the best results, you have to work in small sections. You can also add an additional cleaning solution & water as necessary.
  • Finally allow the couch to dry exhaustively before reassembling it for use.

Method 2: Leather Couch

Here are the steps for this process:
  • First of all, you need to vacuum the crevices of your couch, in the same manner, as you did with an upholstered couch.
  • Now, you need to mix 1 part of distilled vinegar(white) with 2 parts of oil(raw linseed oil) in a plastic squirt bottle. Shake well in order to mix all the liquids.
  • Now you need to apply the mixture to your leather couch with a clean dry, lint-free white cloth. Wipe your entire leather couch down with the help of moistened rag. Apply some additional moisture to your rag if needed using your homemade squirt bottle solution. If the lint-free cloth becomes very soiled, now switch to a clean rag.
  • This is your final step, allow your mixture to dry entirely. Now you need to use a clean, dry lint-free white cloth to wipe down your leather couch & then buff it.
