How To Clean An Area Rug With A Steam Cleaner: Two Easy Ways Of Cleaning Area Rug

Two Easy Ways Of Cleaning An Area Rug With A Steam Cleaner

If you want to clean your area rugs by using a steam cleaner then you just need to go through the two easy step by step ways mentioned below:

Way 1: Filling The Steam Cleaner

  • First of all, you need to fill your steam cleaner with some hot water. Most steam machines have a heating system for the water but using hot water is best. Use water as hot as possible without literally being boiling. Only put as much water as the machine directs so that you don't have to overfill your water tank. Look for a max fill line on your water tank.
  • Also, add soap as directed. Steam cleaners occasionally use a detergent of some kind and make sure to check your machine’s guidance to use the right kind. Only use the suggested amount, as using too much soap will cause it to stay in your carpet.
  • Opt for vinegar over soap detergent. Steam is not absolutely what cleans your rug, a cleaner or detergent is best to clean your rug. If you are the person who is hypersensitive to chemicals or you want a natural option then vinegar is a great choice for cleaning. Simply mix a 50/50 solution of hot water & vinegar.

Way 2: Steaming The Entire Area Rug

  • Start your work in a corner. Find your corner that is slanted from your door or entrance of your room. Start cleaning in your corner & slowly work yourself out of your room. If your room has an open conception or more than one entrance, you have more exemption regarding where to start your work. Wherever you start, don’t walk on your parts that have previously been cleaned.
  • Push or pull your steam machine as directed. Steam cleaners put hot water on your rug and then instantly suck up any dirty water. Some are meant to be depressed to lay water & pulled back to suck it. Others work only by pushing or by pulling. It is very important to read the guidance for your machine before using it.
  • Walk your steam cleaner machine in long lines across your room. The steam cleaner is most adequate when you make long passes from your wall to the wall. Walk from your corner to your opposite wall & back. Pass over your same line twice if your steam cleaner lays your soapy water going ahead & sucks it up going backward. Don’t use short, forth & backstrokes as you would with your vacuum cleaner.
  • Move your steam cleaner machine slowly to allow it to work properly. Steam cleaners work slower than the vacuum cleaner, so conservative your speed. Pulling your steam cleaner machine too fast will not give it time to suck up the water, leaving your rugs wetter than they should be. It exceeds to go too slow than to go too fast. Going too fast means you might be leaving perspiration behind which could cause mildew or mold in upcoming time.
  • Allow your rug to dry wholly. Most of the rugs take 6 to 8 hours to dry all but some of the rugs may take upon 12-24 hours but be sure that you don’t walk on your rugs during this time. If you unconditionally have to, simply put plastic bags over your feet so you don’t track any dirt onto your wet rugs.
