Ultimate Way For Cleaning, Removing Stains & Maintaining Sisal Wood Rug

The Sisal is actually a natural fiber that is made from the leave of the agave plant. It is becoming a popular choice for rugs as well as for other household decors, it has a beautiful earthy look of its rough weave. The ultimate way for cleaning, removing stains and maintaining sisal wood rug is mentioned below:

Daily Cleaning

  1. Shake: For the daily cleaning the user needs to shake the rug well to remove all the debris. If in case the rug picks up large amounts of debris or dirt, then simply start by shaking it out carefully. Take the rug out to an outside area such as a garage or yard, and start shaking the sisal rug by holding one end in the hands then raise the rug above the head and bring the arms down quickly. This will help a lot to expel any large debris.
  2. Beating: For the finer cleaning beat the rug as this will help to remove all the finer dirt and dust, simply hang the rug up in an outside area like a yard and then take a rug beater or even a tennis racket to beat up the dust out of the sisal rug. Try to do it firmly but at the same time gently hit most affected sections of the rug with the racket, start from top to bottom.
  3. Vacuum The Rug: The user can also use the vacuum for the daily cleaning and for that use a suction-only vacuum-like as a hand vacuum as well as an upholstery attachment for the vacuum hose. It is advised to not use the beaters on the vacuum as it is less effective and can cause more wear to the fibers of the rug. Instead, the user should use a strong suction setting on a vacuum cleaner which will help to pull out all the dirt and debris that is present in the fibers.

Removing Stains

  1. Blot Spills: In case of the spills try to blot it as they happen. The moisture of any kind can easily warp the weave of sisal and will ultimately lead to browning of the fiber, so the user should try to address spills as soon as possible. Blot the affected spot dry with the help of a clean towel. However its highly advisable to avoid rubbing, as this can spread the moisture.
  2. Potential Stains: In case of the tough stains blot up the spill and quickly treat the area. For treating the area take a brush or even a sponge and apply a small amount of a mild fabric detergent on the affected area. The user should ensure that the area is not oversaturated with the cleaning solution. After cleaning is done then blot the area with lukewarm water and a clean cloth. Continue to rinse until all the cleaning solution is removed. If the stain is still removed but there is an odor, that time use 1 part of vinegar mix with 1 part water for a cleaning solution. In case of the oil-based stains, the user should use the same process but go for tetra solvent in place of a mild detergent.
  3. Dry Out The Rug: If incase a sisal rug gets wet, even if it is just simple water, then it is important to dry it as soon as possible. For that keep a low heat setting on a hairdryer or the user can use a large fan to help the rug to dry faster.

Maintaining

  1. Sunlight: For maintaining the rug it's important to have the consistent sunlight because the sisal is a natural fiber rug, it can be easily bleached by the sun. So It's fine to place a sisal rug in the sunlight as long as the sunlight evenly across the rug. If in case the sunlight only reaches some portion of the rug, that time it will only bleach out that individual part of the rug, that will lead to inconsistent coloration across all the area rug.
  2. Fabric Protectant: Fabric protectants that are made especially for sisal rugs can help a lot to keep the sisal rug looking better and will also make it difficult for the spills to stain the surface.
