Easy Ways To Get Rid Of Spills, Odors & Stains From Memory Foam Pillow

The memory foam pillows are not designed for machine washing, instead, there are different ways in order to clean up spills, neutralize odors, and remove stains from memory foam pillows, all these ways are mentioned below:

Cleaning Spills

  1. Remove And Wash: In case of the spills remove memory foam pillow and then wash it. As soon as the spills occur remove the pillowcase and check out its care instructions label. The user can soak it in a cool water or wash it according to its instructions, this will help to prevent staining. In order to keep the memory foam pillow clean use a liquid-proof pillowcase or simply a pillow protector.
  2. Towels: For any spills soak it up with the help of towels as quickly as possible. Remove the pillowcase and then blot the spilled area using dry cloths or paper towels. The user should try to soak up as much of the spill as possible. It is advisable to use blotting motions and not hard scrubbing or rubbing.
  3. Mild Detergent: The other option for cleaning the spills is to dab the spilled area with the moist cloth having the mild detergent. After soaking up the excess liquid, dab out the area with the help of a cloth or paper towel which should be moistened with cool water. In case of the serious spills put a one or two drops of mild detergent, alcohol-free dish soap over the damp cloth and then apply it by blotting the spill area. The user should only use the cold water, this is because the hot water causes stains to set.
  4. Blot And Air Dry: After cleaning the spills is done, then blot the area using a dry towel. Its highly advisable to avoid wringing out the pillow. After removing the dampness using the towel as much as possible, leave the pillow to air dry completely.

Removing Odors

  1. Fabric Freshener: For the odors mist the pillow using a fabric freshener. A fabric freshening spray is a good option to neutralize an odor. However it does not work for tougher odors, it will only work as an easy option for less odors.
  2. Baking Soda: The other option is to sprinkle baking soda onto the pillow. Remove the pillowcase and then sprinkle baking soda on both the sides of the pillow. Leave the soda for up to 15 minutes in case of basic odor and for tougher odors, let the soda to sit for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Vacuum: Lift up the baking soda with the handheld vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda. The Vacuuming will also help to remove dust, skin cells, as well as other particles from within the pillow.
  4. Bright Sunlight: Using the sunlight to disinfect and remove the odor is one of the old fashioned techniques that most of the manufacturers now recommend. Simply hang the pillow outside on a clothing stand on a warm, sunny day, this is a natural way for odor removal.

Removing Stains

  1. Dabbing: The user should dab the stains with the water and a mild detergent. If incase the stain has become set, then the first step of action should be to try cool water with the mild soap. Use blotting and dabbing technique and avoid the hard scrubbing.
  2. Enzymatic Cleaner: Now spray the stain with the enzymatic cleaner. Look for an enzyme cleaner in a spray bottle at any grocery, or department store. To remove heavy-duty odors spray the stained area with the cleaner. Leave the cleaner to stand for five minutes after spraying.
  3. Use A Vinegar Solution: In place of enzymatic cleaner the other option is to make a quick vinegar solution. Make the solution by mixing together one part of cool water with one part white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle. The user can also add a teaspoon of lemon juice with the solution that will help cut the vinegar smell.
  4. Blot: After leaving the cleaner to stand for 5 minutes, after that dampen a clean cloth or paper towel using cool water and blot the affected area.
