How To Clean A Jute Rug: Three Easy Methods To Clean

Three Easy Methods To Clean A Jute Rug

Here are the 3 easy methods to clean your jute rug, follow these three methods carefully in order to get the desired result:

Method 1: Performing Regular Cleaning

Here are the steps for this method:
  • It's better to vacuum at least once in a whole week in order to avoid dirt or dust from building up in the jute rug and this is the best way to keep your jute rug clean from all the dirt and dust from building up into the fibers.
  • If your jute rug develops a nasty aroma, odors and you want to remove aroma and odors from it, then you simply need to sprinkle some baking soda before vacuuming the jute rug. Pour one cup (520ml) over the jute rug and then leave it for near about 15 minutes before vacuuming to get rid of aroma and odors.
  • The other best way is to trim all the loose fibers with the help of scissors in order to keep your jute rug from deciphering. The jute rug is a sensitive material. The loose filament of the woven fiber will untangle in a short span of time. In order to keep your jute rug from unraveling even further, simply trim all the loose strands by using a pair of scissors. Cut all the loose piece at the base & discard it to keep the jute rug safe.
  • Shake your jute rug out to avert dust and crumbs once in a whole month. Take the jute rag outside & then hold it in a way that its bottom side should be facing towards you. Shake your rug out for 25-35 seconds by moving your arms back & forth frequently.

Method 2: Blotting And Drying Spills

Here are the steps for this method:
  • You need to blot the liquid by using a paper towel or clean cloth instantly. If something spills on your jute rug, then act quickly in order to soak it up. If your jute rug is wet then grab a paper towel or thick cloth and blot the wet area. Pat down & lift it up then, rotating your towel or cloth each time to expose it to new, clean each section of your cloth or towel.
  • You can also use your hairdryer to heat the area & remove all the moisture. Once you have blotted most of the stain will be invisible, plug your hairdryer and turn it on high heat and then hold your hairdryer 4-6"(10-15cm) away from the affected area. Heat your jute rug for 2-10 minutes until you see the moisture visibly lifting out of the stain.
  • Check out the back of your jute rug to clean if needed then blot it dry by using the paper towels or by a thick cloth & then heat your rug from the back by using your hairdryer.
  • Hang the jute rug to let it dry for a few hours in front of the fan. To avert any type of mold from growing underneath your rug, hang your jute rug in a dry area and then let it air out. If possible then turn on your fan & point it at the stain. This will avert any long-term damage to the fibers of jute rug by getting rid of any hard-to-see moisture.
  • You can also use white vinegar if the previous method doesn't work. Simply fill your spray bottle with some white vinegar and then spray over the stain affected area with a mist of white vinegar & then blot it up by using a paper towel or cloth. You may also leave a stain behind from the white vinegar, but at least you tried.

Method 3: Using A Dry Cleaner

Here are the steps for this method:
  • Vacuum the powder up in order get rid of it from the rug. After enough time has passed, the powder will absorb the stain, dirt, and nasty odors that were trapped in your rug. To get the powder off of your rug, set your vacuum at low-power, and then vacuum your jute. Work in the direction of the weave and cover every part of the rug to get the powder out.
  • You can also use a dry cleaning powder to spot clean & lift the stains out. The dry cleaning powder is used to clean the dirty carpets without getting wet. Read all the labels of your carpet powders to be sure that they can also work on jute rug & natural fibers.
  • Simply sprinkle some cleaning powder on your dirty jute rug or on the stain and then brush it into the jute fibers. Follow the directions of dry cleaning powder to determine how much powder you can use. In some cases, you need to use a full powder package over the jute rug. When the powder is wholly covering the jute rug then use a soft-bristled brush and then scrub it into your rug. Only use light, back & forth strokes & brush according to the direction of the weave.
  • After following the previous step, now wait for at least 30 minutes in order to let the cleaning powder rest in the jute rug because this will erode the dust and stains in the fibers of the jute rug. Some of the cleaning powders will also require you to leave them on for longer time but 30 minutes is usually enough for the light stains in your jute rug.
  • This is your final step, simply vacuum the applied powder up to lift it out of the jute rug. After a short period of time, the cleaning powder will easily absorb the dirt, stain and nasty odors that were trapped in the jute rug. Set your vacuum cleaner on the low power and give the jute rug a thorough vacuuming, always try to work in the direction of the weave & cover each and every part of your jute rug to get the powder out from it.
