The first step is to make a selection of furniture piece to which the user wants to Chalk Paint. The supplies required are Chalk Paint (Annie Sloan chalk paint), Paint Brush (a simple chip brush), Wax Can & a Wax Brush, Sandpaper, and a Lint Free Cloth.
  2. Cleaning:
The next step is to clean the whole furniture using soapy water and let the furniture dry completely. Avoid using wax for cleaning as its components may not mix well with chalk paint.
  3. Painting:
The third step is to use a chip brush for painting the furniture. The two coats are required to paint furniture and the user doesn't need all strokes of the brush go the same direction. Also, the user can avoid painting every nook of the furniture if he doesn't want to do so.
  4. Sanding:
The next step will be to lightly sand over the chalk paint using fine-grit sandpaper in order to create grooves in the furniture. It is the user's personal preference as to how much paint he wants to take out of the furniture using sandpaper.
  5. Cleaning Sand Dust:
The user needs to wipe out any dust left on the furniture by sanding using a dampened lint-free cloth.
  6. Waxing:
In order to seal the chalk paint on to the furniture, waxing is required as chalk paint doesn't contain sealer. Before waxing, let the chalk paint dry completely and it is recommended to use a separate brush for waxing. The user has two options either he can use clear wax or dark wax as dark wax darkens the color more and gives a piece of furniture more aged look.
  7. Note: If the furniture has to be used outdoor, avoid waxing it as the wax will not set outdoor. Also, it is recommended to use a separate brush for dark waxing and the brush cannot be reused for painting or regular waxing.
  8. Drying:
The last step will be to let the furniture dry completely and if the chalk paint furniture has to be heavily used, the drying time is 2-3 weeks. Also, if the user finds a water ring on the chalk painted item, he needs to clean it up with soapy water and buff it with wax or simply repaint it.
