The users can easily build wall mounted garage shelves at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-defined steps:

Materials Required

  • 2 In × 4 Inboard, 3/4 In Plywood
  • Tape Measure, Handsaw Or Bandsaw
  • Drill And Wood Screws

Procedure

  • Measure The Distance: Start by measuring the distance in between the studs and the place where the users want to place their shelf. The users require to find out the ideal spot for placing their shelf and then they need to measure one wall stud and then spread it as per the length that they desire for their shelf so that it will eventually end on another stud. The users need to be assured that the measuring tape will always stay in a straight line and in the level otherwise the users won't get the accurate measurements. Then mark down all the calculations on the surface of the wall so that the users won't forget that. The wall studs that are present in the garage are uncovered but they might require using the stud finder so as to find out the stud behind the drywall.
  • Trim The Board: Then the users need to trim the board so as to use it for building the frame. They need to use the bandsaw or the handsaw to cut the two boards so as to match with the calculate length measurement that they took in the garage. Then trim down the boards that are of sixteen inches long and that will be used as the braces and sides of shelves. Before trimming down the board the users are advised to wear the safety glasses so as to protect the eyes.
  • Assemble The Pieces: Then they need to assemble the side and the backboard into a U-shape frame. They need to lay one long piece on the surface and clamp the one 16 inches sized pieces vertically to one of its ends. Then drill down the two pocket holes in the 16-inch sized board within the long sized board so as to hide up the screws. Then drive down the 3 screws in each of the holes so as to fasten the side in the place. The user needs to repeat the same procedure with the other side and piece.
  • Secure The Back Piece: Then they need to screw down the frame within the studs present in the garage wall. They need to hold up the frame adjacent to the wall and they need to be assured that the frame is on a level with the wall so that the things won't get slid off from it when the users install it. Then fasten up the back piece with the wall studs by driving the 3 screws within the backpiece.
  • Affix The Front And Brace: Then affix the brace adjacent with the frame back by using the screws within the pocket holes and they need to keep on affixing the brace piece to the frame till they won't reach to another end. Then they need to secure the front sideboard with the frame in a similar way by driving down the 2 screws accordingly.
  • Fasten The Plywood: Finally fasten the plywood over the frame top by using the screws and for attaining more support the users need to install the angle braces board.
