How To Build Kitchen Island From Scratch: Easy Steps To Build

Easy Steps To Build Kitchen Island

The users can easily build kitchen island by following the below-mentioned steps:
  1. Gather All The Tools And Materials: The users need to start by gathering all the tools and the materials that they require while accomplishing this task like safety glasses, 12-inch upper cabinets, cement rollers, one corner cabinet, J-roller, toe kicks, laminate bit, router, cabinet screws, laminate slitter, MDF counter top, circular saw, laminate, drill, contact cement, measuring tape, spacers, and clamps.
  2. Assemble The Cabinets: Then they need to compile the cabinets towards its upside-down and then start measuring the surface. Then the users need to clench together the cabinets by using the screws.
  3. Built The Toe Kick: The top cabinets do not consist of the toe-kick but the users need to affix the l-designed toe-kick to the top cabinets and for that, the toe-kick that the users are affixing to the cabinets must be built in a way that it should rest three inches from all the cabinet sides and should also measure at four inches in height. Then they need to place the end of the spacer to end to the toe kick at that mark where cabinets meet. When the toe kick is built they need to affix the spacers of the toe kick with the cabinet.
  4. Affix The Peninsula Cabinets: Then they need to flip the right side of the peninsula towards upwards and place in the exact position. Then affix the peninsula cabinets to the old cabinets by using the wood screws.
  5. Lay The MDF Counter top: Then the users need to lay the counter top that is crafted from the MDF material over the upper area of the peninsula cabinet. The users need to make sure that they should place the MDF counter top in a way that it would hang two inches upwards to the side of the door and eight inches to the backside of the cabinets. By adding the eight inches to the backside will help in making the extra seating area. Then affix the MDF counter top to the cabinets by using the screws respectively.
  6. Trim The Laminate: Then they need to calculate the size dimension of the counter top so as to affix it with the laminate. After calculating the exact size dimensions and trim out the laminate by using the circular saw.
  7. Use The Stripper: The users need to use the laminate stripper so as to trim the laminate to cover up all the counter top sides.
  8. Lay The Laminate: Before placing the laminate the users need to make sure that the surface should be free from the dust and the debris particles. Then spread 2 layers of the contact cement over the sides of the counter top and also to the below surface of the strips of the laminate. Then allow the cement to get dried off and then place the strips in the correct place. Then they need to get rid of the air pockets by using the J-roller. The users have advised to carefully place the laminate in its exact position as it can’t get moved after that.
  9. Trim Off The Excess Laminate: When the users find out that the cement is completely dried then they need to get rid of the unneeded laminate by using the laminate bit and the router respectively.
  10. Work On Counter top: Once the users got successful in removing the unneeded laminate then they need to start work on the counter top and to do so they need to apply the 2 layers of the contact cement over the surface of the counter top and to the below surface of the laminate.
  11. Place Down The Spacers: The moment when the users find out that the cement is dried they need to lay the spacers down over the surface of the counter top and the users then need to flip the spacers to the laminate portion so as to make sure that the laminate portion is correctly positioned. Then detach the spacer and make the surface smooth by using the J- roller.
  12. Use The Router: Then again move the router over the counter top in order to get rid of the unneeded laminate respectively.
