Steps To Build A Simple/Basic Cabinet Box

People usually think building a simple cabinet box is a very hard process but in reality, its construction is as easier as it can get. The steps to build a simple cabinet box by self are as follows:
  1. Determine Cabinet Box Dimensions:
    Before starting the cabinet box construction, it is necessary for the user to determine its dimensions. It has been recommended by the experts to always select the dimensions that should account the cabinet doors wanted and purchased by the user. The standard dimensions of the cabinet box are; depth 25" in which cabinet is 24" and countertop lip is 1", height 36" in which the cabinet is 34.5", and the standard width of cabinets is anything in between 12-60". If the user wants to build a wall cabinet, he needs to left about 18-20" from the ceiling allowing perfect space for upper cabinets.
  2. Cut Cabinet Sides:
    After that, the user needs to cut out the sides of the cabinet box from 3/4" MDF, plywood, or any other laminate type. It has been recommended by the experts to use durable and strong material for cabinet sides rather than going for an appearance as the sides of the cabinet will not be visible. The dimensions of the side panels will be 24" wide and 34.5" high. After that, the user needs to clamp both the side panels together and cut toe kick measuring 3 x 5.5" at one corner by using a jigsaw. The toe kick corners will be used at the bottom front of the cabinet.
  3. Cut Cabinet Bottom:
    The next step will be to cut the cabinet bottom measuring 24" in depth and the width will depend as per the user preference. It has been recommended by the experts to cut the bottom piece in a way so that the bottom piece width will account the width of the cabinet sides when they are attached together.
  4. Cut Cabinet Front & Back Base Panels And Top Brace Panels:
    After that, the user needs to cut front and back base panels by using 1x6 lumber. It has been recommended by the experts to cut two pieces similar to the width of the cabinet bottom. Apart from that, the user needs to cut two more top brace panels of similar width required to hold the top ends together.
  5. Cut Cabinet Facing Panels:
    The next step will be to cut facing panels that are assembled like a picture frame. The assembled picture frame is the main part of the cabinet that shows. It has been recommended by the experts to use dimensional lumber that appeals the user to make such panels. The dimensions of the facing panels depend upon the width and height of the cabinet with two pieces cut as per height and two pieces as per width.
  6. Attach Base Panels:
    After that, the user needs to attach base panels to the cabinet bottom. First, the user needs to align as well as glue the base panels and attach them to the front and back respectively. Then, the user needs to screw butt joints into the panel edges through the cabinet base for secure attachment of the base panels. It has been recommended by the experts to make pilot holes for the attachment.
  7. Attach Cabinet Sides With Bottom:
    The next step will be to attach cabinet sides with bottom base. First, the user needs to glue the sides and then secure them by using butt joints. The user needs to make sure all the edges of the cabinet are flush that can be checked by using clamps and angle measuring tools.
  8. Attach Top Brace Panels:
    After that, the user needs to attach top brace panels by using glue and butt joints. It has been recommended by the experts to attach back panel in a way so that it sits flat with the wall and the front panel should be attached in a way so that it sits flush with the countertop once placed.
  9. Cut & Attach Back Panel:
    The next step will be to measure the back panel dimensions and cut 1/2" plywood back panel as per the dimensions. After that, the user needs to attach the back panel to the cabinet backside by using nails. Apart from that, the user needs to reinforce all the joints with screws and corner brackets.
  10. Cut & Attach Cabinet Top:
    After that, the user needs to measure the dimensions of the table top and cut 3/4" MDF, plywood, or any other laminate type as per the dimensions. Then, the user needs to secure the top by using nails.
  11. Attach Facing Panels:
    The next step will be to create a picture frame out of facing panels and attach it to the front of the cabinet by using nails. After that, the user needs to place the cabinet at the desired place and then secure it by screwing through the cabinet back panel into the back wall.
  12. Install Doors:
    The last step will be to install doors on to the cabinet as per the manufacturer's instructions. The user can also install the drawers but that will be a more complex process.
