Easy Procedure & Items Required To Build A Sideboard From Stock Cabinets

Materials And Tools Required

  • Circular Saw, Screwdriver, Milter Saw & Handsaw
  • Drill, Driver, Putty knife, Paintbrush & Paint Roller
  • Hammer, Nail Set & Birch Plywood Sheet
  • 3 Base Cabinets Of The 18-Inch Size, ½x1 Lattice Strips
  • 1x3 Furring Strips, ¾ Bed Molding, x2 Lattice Strips
  • 6 Knobs, 4 Furniture Feets, 4 Edge Footplates And 3 Door Pushes

Procedure

  1. Detaching The Toekick: In order to decrease each cabinet so as to adjust the feet the users need to alter the line that usually flushes with the frame base corner to the sides, cabinet back and the toe kicks by using the square collection. Then they need to detach the unneeded material by using the hand saw.
  2. Affix The Cabinets: The users then need to organize the 2 furring strips of the size 1x3 in between the cabinets in a perpendicular way so that it will work as the spacers. Then they need to use the drill and the deck screws of 5/8 inch and then affix the cabinets with each other as per the strip length. They need to settle the screws within the sides so as to add more strength to the cabinets.

Then they need to use the circular saw so as to trim down the 2 pieces of the plywood so as to cover up the cabinet sides. In order to secure the plywood with the strips, the users are advised to use the finishing nails.
  4. Clad The Front: Then the users need to trim the ½x1 lattice strip to one inch long then the cabinet width. Then they need to affix it crosswise on the base drawer corner by using the finishing nails. In order to cover up the uncovered corners of the plywood and the spacers, they need to affix the trimmed stiles.
  5. Affix The Footplates: Then they need to affix the footplates with the corners of the cabinet.
  6. Screw In Feet: After that, the users need to fit up the feet with the plates and then flip up the cabinet piece in the upright position as it will stand on to its feet.
  7. Affix The Knobs: They need to drill down the 2 holes in each drawer so as to affix the knob and then fasten them by using the screw.
  8. Craft The Top: Then trim down the plywood sheet as per the piece size by using the circular saw and then affix the top with the cabinet frame by using the nails and the hammer.
  9. Cut The Top: The users need to attach the molding to the corners and to the sideboard edges and the corners as well by using up the finishing nails. In order to fill up any holes and seams, they need to spread the wood putty by using the putty knife and then let it get dried off completely.
  10. Paint The Piece: Once the wood putty is dried off completely then they need to sand down the surface by using the sandpaper so as to create the smooth surface to which the paint can get adhered easily. Then apply the 2 paint layers to the entire surface of the item and then allow the paint to get dried off completely. In order to highlight all the specific details of the item, the users need to apply the wax finish over it.
