How To Build A Nightstand: Step By Step Process Of Making A Nightstand

Step By Step Process Of Making A Nightstand

Nightstand, also known by the names of the night table or bedside table, is a small table that is particularly used during the night and is usually beside the bed. The nightstand can also be used as a coffee table at night as the person can enjoy a coffee while having a nightstand in front. There are a number of ways through which you can make a nightstand, one of the ways is using pallets, which can be found easily at low cost. Follow the step by step process of making a nightstand carefully:
  • Break The Pallets: The first step is to break the pallet apart. With the help of a prybar and a hammer remove all the slats. The user can also use a chisel to loosen up the slat before using a prybar, doing this way won't damage the wood as much.
  • Frame: The frame consists of 10 3x2 and 4x1 boards that are held together by 2 rectangles. Cut the 10 boards at about 52cm using the circular saw or any of the desired length. It depends on the user to select which sets they want to use for the sides and which for the back. Place the sets of the boards right next to each other and then measure the total width. This is the measurement that will be used for rectangles. The rectangles will have 4 pieces of the beams each. It is important to cut down the beams at exact size.
  • Assembling The Rectangles: After the above step is done the user can assemble the rectangles. The pieces of beams are thick, so drill a hole halfway up the beam so that the screws would be long enough. It is important to be sure to make the rectangles square. Clamp the pieces down on top of each other.
  • Cutting Top Board: When the user has finished assembling the rectangles then they have to cut the top boards. Use the circular saw to cut out the pieces at the exact right size. Besides that cut the boards in length, with the circular saw.
  • Sanding: Before assembling the frame the user has to sand the pieces with the help of belt sander. Use the belt sander in a circular motion for creating a nice pattern.
  • Assemble The Frame: Start by assembling the top boards over the rectangular board. If the boards are a bit larger then use the belt sander to get it flush from all the four sides. Then nail down all the boards from the sides as well as from the back. Clamp everything down for making it square before nailing. Lastly, assemble the front board.
  • Plywood Pieces: In order to make the drawer slide more easily, glue the two pieces of plywood on the inside of the frame.
  • Make A Drawer: The drawer is made up of 5 pieces of wood with a piece of 4 mm plywood. Measure up the size of the plywood and then cut it with the circular saw. Measure the height as well as cut a groove into the front board that is 8mm in depth. Cut down the other boards as well. Put all the boards on top of the plywood and secure them together using nails and glue.
  • Make The Shelf: After the user is finished with the drawer, use the screws to secure the 2 slats to the sides and make sure that slats are even. Now nail the shelf boards on the slats.
