Different Methods & Steps To Build A Freestanding Wardrobe Closet

The users can easily build the Freestanding Wardrobe Closet by following the below-mentioned methods with steps:

Method 1: Build The Base Of The Closet

  • Step 1: The users need to start by measuring all the size dimensions of the chosen area for building the Closet.
  • Step 2: Then trim the wood pieces of 2-by-4-inch in order to build the closet base on the floor. The users need to leave the door opening and the width of the door should be 6 ¼ inches so as to locate the wood studs and to form the frame of the door as well.
  • Step 3: Then trim again the wood pieces of 2-by-4-inch in order to craft the roof of the wardrobe closet but this time the users does not need to leave the door opening. Then set the trimmed wooden pieces aside.
  • Step 4: Then assemble the trimmed wooden pieces ahead of the floor and then affix together the pieces by using the electric drill or by simply using the hammer drill. Once the users have drilled the holes on the wooden pieces the users then need to insert the anchors in the holes before tightening the wooden pieces on the floor accordingly.

Method 2: Building The Closet Walls

  • Step 1: The users need to craft the closet sidewalls on the surface of the floor. They need to work on the measurement of the closet side height. They need to minimize the four inches to the base area and the two inches to the top as well in order to trim the wall studs. The users need to trim many studs in the wall as they are very important to affix the closet to the wall.
  • Step 2: Then users need to trim the 2-by-4-inch wood piece and the top wood piece to each of the wall that contains the alike width size dimensions as the basic base wood pieces are already fastened with the floor.
  • Step 3: Then place the 2/4 trimmed wood pieces in betwixt and in a perpendicular way to the top wood piece and to the base wood piece. Then build the wall study by leaving the 12 inches space and then fix the studs into the base and the top wood piece accordingly.
  • Step 4: Then the users need to pull each of the wall sides on their base plates that are affixed on the floor. Then affix the wall pieces to the base pieces by using the four-inch heavy bolts and screws.
  • Step 5: Then they need to strengthen each edge of the closet by using an extra 2/4 inch stud that should be arranged opposite to the walls. Then tighten each closet corner by using the screws and bolts.

Method 3: Build The Closet Top

  • Step 1: The users need to calculate the length from the top area of the closet from the opposite side to the sidewall respectively.
  • Step 2: Then again trim the 2/4 inch wood slices in order to locate them at the top side by leaving the space of the 12 inches.
  • Step 3: Then they need to lock the trimmed wood pieces over the top frame of sidewalls and then twist in two inches metal plates inside the side ends of the roof stud and also inside the frame of the sidewall.

Method 4: Insert The Frame Of The Doors

  • Step 1: Make the header of the door just at the higher position of the door and also affix the 2/4 inch trimmed wood slice that has been trimmed as per the width of the door. Then affix the wood piece through the sidewall studs.
  • Step 2: Then the users need to calculate the height in between the top plate and the base plate. Then trim the four wood pieces that should be 2/4 inch and then affix the trimmed pieces to the header of the door by using the sharp nails.
  • Step 3: Then trim again 2/4 inch wood slices to craft the sides for the opening of the door. Then nail down these two trimmed wooden pieces to their adjacent wood studs.
  • Step 4: Then Insert the frame of the door directly into the opening of the closet door and nail down the frame directly to their wood studs.
  • Step 5: Then make the door hang to the frame by using the metal screws and hinges and also drill the hole in the door so as to attach the door Knob.

Method 5: Finish Up The Procedure

  • Step 1: The users need to trim the wallboard in order to finish up the ceiling area and the walls of the closet. The users need to trim the wallboard according to the size dimension of the wall and then mark the line by using the dark pencil and the line should be straight and should also have the straight edge as well.
  • Step 2: Then curve the wallboard according to the line and trim it into equal pieces by using the utility knife.
  • Step 3: Then users need to arrange the wallboard at each end of the wall studs so as to cover them accordingly.
  • Step 4: In order to fill up all the screw holes use the joint compound and spread it by using the putty knife. Wipe away the excess compound by using the rag and allow it to get dried completely. Then use the fine-grit sandpaper and rub it over the treated area in order to achieve a smooth finish. Then wipe away the sanding dust by using a soft damp cloth.
  • Step 5: And at last apply the wood primer and then paint over the entire surface of the wardrobe accordingly.
