Step By Step Process Of Building A Corner Kitchen Cabinet

  • First of all, you need to cut the pieces for the back. With your pocket hole jig set for 3/4? material, drill pocket holes in 1 edge of your shorter back piece as shown in the drawings. Secure your back piece by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws.
  • Now you need to cut the pieces for all the sides and then drill pocket holes in 1 long edge of each piece. Secure to the back pieces by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws.
  • Next you need to cut the pieces for the bottom & shelves, as well as the top for your upper cabinet. Cut all the notches by using a jigsaw or a bandsaw. Also, drill pocket holes in the bottom pieces as well as the upper top. Now you need to secure the bottom pieces to the back & sides as shown by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws.
  • Simply cut all the pieces for your shelf supports. Also, secure the longest support to the back first by using glue and 1-1/4? brad nails, and then you need to attach all the remaining pieces. The shortest pieces will be located at 1? back from the front edge of the sides. Position all the shelves on the supports and then secure them in place by using glue and 1-1/4? brad nails.
  • For your upper cabinet, you need to position the top & secure to the back and the sides by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws.
  • Next you need to cut all the pieces for your stretchers. Now you need to drill pocket holes at each end of the shorter piece & one end only for the longer piece. Also, assemble all the pieces in an “L” shape by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws. Now you need to position all the pieces at the upper part of the sides. The next thing is to secure in place by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws.
  • Cut the pieces for your doors. One stile will be narrower than the other 3 for each set of your doors. Simply drill pocket holes at each end of your shorter pieces which locating the pocket holes so they will not interfere with your router bit when the recess is cut for all the panels.
  • Assemble your door frames by using glue and 1-1/4? pocket hole screws.
  • You now need to use a 3/8? rabbeting bit & the router to cut a 1/4? deep recess on the inside of your frame for the door panels. Now you need to cut the panels for your doors and then secure in place with the help of glue and clamps.
  • If you are creating the “L” shaped doors then you need to use 1-1/4? brad nails and glue to attach your doors to each other. If you are using the corner cabinet hinges then you need to install the hinges according to the manufacturer’s installation guidance. Also, attach the 3/8? overlay hinges on your doors and then install the doors in your cabinet. The top and bottom of your doors will now overlap the opening by 1/2?, and the sides will overlay by 3/8?.
