Easy Steps & Items Required To Build A Corner Closet

If you want to build your own corner closet at your home, you can do it easily but for that, you need certain items and then follow the steps afterward. The item list and the steps are mentioned below:

Items Required

  • Framing Hammer, Putty Knife & Pry Bar
  • Embedment Compound & Hand Saw
  • Screws Or Nails, Miter Saw & Sheetrock
  • Power Drill, Construction Adhesive & Utility Knife
  • Framing Nails, Toggle Bolts & Deck Screws

Steps

  1. Decide: The users need to decide where they want to locate their closet as it can be the hard portion of the entire process. The alcove can be the most formal place to build the closet or they can place the closet at the hallway end respectively.
  2. Plan: Then they need to plan about their doors and the walls as the wall or the walk-in type of the closet will depend upon the space available to the users.
  3. Detach: Then they need to detach the ceiling trim, either the base or the floor carpet from that specific area where the users have planned to use that area for construction of the closet. The users are advised to be very careful while detaching the base trim as they need to re-install it again once they finish up building the closet.
  4. Install The Frame: The users then need to start by installing the framing and to do so they need to begin from the top plate and the base. Then they need to affix the base to the floor and the plate with the ceiling by using the deck screws. The users need to use the 4-inch sized bolts and the construction adhesive and then they need to nail down the stud with the wall side and with the upper and lower base plates. Then they need to unsmooth the opening of the door by nailing down the studs with the base and the top plates. The users are advised to use the spacing if the thickness of the wall is much than the 16 inches and less than the 24 inches. Then they need to unsmooth the framing of the door and to do so they need to affix the trimmer studs along each door side and they also need to affix the short studs in between the ceiling plate and the header of the door respectively.
  5. 5-Inch Sheetrock: Then the users need to hand the 5-inch sized sheetrock over the surface of the walls as the sides of the frame require to use the sheetrock screws. Then they need to trim the sheetrock as per the desired size by using the utility knife and then they need to run the sheathing corner over the unsmooth openings of the door.
  6. Place The Doors: Then they need to place the doors in the frame of the closet and to do so they need to place the doors at the unsmooth surface and if the users are using the traditional doors then align the door with the closet frame by using the level and the shims and then affix the trim accordingly.
