Easy Steps And Items Needed To Build A Bay Window Bench Seat With Storgae

The window seat is eventually used to add the extra seat in the home near the window. The window bench can be used to enjoy reading or enjoying the sun. The users can add more comfort to the window bench by adding some throw pillows.
The users can easily build the bay window bench seat with storage at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-mentioned steps.

Items Needed

  • Plywood Sheets, Table Saw & Baseboard Trim
  • Liquid Nails, Silicone Caulk & Wood Putty
  • Sandpaper, Primer, Paint & 3 1/2 Screws
  • Miter Saw, Level, Stud Finder & Hammer
  • Circular Saw, Nail Punch & Pocket Screws

Steps

  • Plan The Design: Usually the bay window benches are not crafted equally and that is why the users need to calculate the measurements of the wall angles. The regular standard is 135 degree but somehow there are many variations so the angles of the window benches are probably different. The corners of the wall are not eventually straight and are not perfectly square as well. The users need to plan about the depth of their window bench seat. Normally the depth of the seat should be 24 inches deep so that the user can easily use the rug instead of using the cushions.
  • Build The Frame: In order to start framing up the box the users need to use the stud finder so as to find out the studs in the wall. Usually, the studs are of 16" far on the center and there are some alterations below the window. Once the users located the stud they need to mark it down and then ascent the 2x4 board at the back of the wall by using the 3 1/2" screws. The board top is of 18 1/4" off from the surface of the floor so that 19" will be the final height as long the 3/4" plywood sheet is added. The users need to make sure that the 2x4 board affixed with the wall are at the perfect level and that is why there is no specific reason to joint the 2x4s plywood board at the edges as these edges will get concealed from the vision and joining the corners will not have any influence on its strength.
  • Detach: Then the users need to detach the baseboard and then craft the front side of the wall frame. The users can craft the bay window next to the wall so that it will be parallel to the wall back so they need to joint the 2x4s at the wall side and both the base and the top of 2x4 have the 45 degree trims on both the corners so as to match with the mall. Then they need to nail down the frame with each other in order to check whether the frame is making the square.
  • Affix The Wall Cabinets With Base: The users then need to use the drill and one-inch screws and then attach the cabinets with the frame of the base. The cabinets need to start to affix from one side by using the two-inch screws and then they need to affix the opposite cabinets with the frame so as to allow the even movement of the trim of the board below as the toe-kick.
  • Affix The Trim: Then they need to trim the board to almost sixty inches by using the miter saw. Then they need to lay the trim board all across the base frame front as the toe-kick by using the electric nailer and then affix the toe-kick by using the seven or eight finished nails.
  • Trim The Seat: By using the circular saw the users need to trim the plywood sheet as per sixty inches by the 30 and a half inches accordingly. Then they need to affix the seat on the cabinets with the finished corner facing outwards and the back should touch the surface of the wall by using the drill they need to drive the screws within the seating area. The users are advised to affix almost 8 screws.
  • Affix The Quarter Round: The users need to use the milter saw and then trim the round trim to near about sixty inches long and then apply the wood glue at the front corner of the seat and then affix the quarter round with this corner by using the finish nails. The users are advised to quickly remove the unneeded glue.
  • Paint Down The Window Bench: Once the window bench is successfully crafted the users need to sand down its surface by using the sandpaper especially sand down the area in between the joints of the seat. Then they need to apply the primer to the entire surface of the window bench and then allow it to get dried off completely and then apply the paint coats over the entire surface and then allow the paint to get dried off completely.
