Methods, Steps & Items Needed For Buffing A Leather Couch

The couch is made up of different types of material such as leather, foam, etc. The leather couch can easily catch the stains from liquid items such as tea, coffee, cold drinks and others. If you want to clean your leather couch then follow the given methods & steps carefully to get the best result of couch cleaning. Here are the methods & steps to clean your leather couch.

Items Needed

  • Vacuum Cleaner
  • Distilled Water
  • White Vinegar
  • 4 soft, clean Rags
  • Lemon Or Tea Tree Essential Oil
  • Cream Of Tartar

Method One: Removing Debris & Doing Routine Cleaning

  1. Remove: Grab vacuum cleaner, wear a face mask, and then start removing the large debris and dust from your leather couch. The best you clean, then the best result you'll get.
  2. Vacuum Cleaner: After following the previous step, again use your vacuum cleaner but this time attach a soft bristle brush on it, it won't damage or scrape the surface of your leather couch.
  3. Dust: For this process you need to use a feather or microfiber duster. Simply rub your entire leather couch with it. Be sure to clean your couch completely before following the further process.
  4. Homemade Solution: Now, it's time to make a homemade solution by combining equal part of vinegar (white) and water. The best to work is in room temperature. Distilled water, the water comes from the tap, may contain other chemicals which may harm your couch.
  5. Dip A Rag: Now, dip a rag in this solution and bring it out, only make it damp not drenched because the excess mixture can damage the couch.
  6. Scrub: Simply, scrub the rag on your leather couch lightly and always work in a small section, repeat this process until you finish scrubbing the entire couch.
  7. Wipe & Dry: Finally, you are going to wipe & dry your leather couch. Take a clean rag and then wipe the entire couch slowly and let it dry for few hours.


Method Two: Treating Stains & Conditioning The Leather Sofa

  1. Grease Stains: If you have the stubborn stains of grease then simply clean it with leather cleaning solution and let it dry for few minutes. Still, if you are not satisfied with the results then sprinkle some baking soda or cornstarch on it. Let it sit for a few hours and then wipe this powder with brush.
  2. Ink Stains: If you are facing the ink stains issue then dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and keep it on the stain for a while and check the ink stains for 2-3 times if it disappear completely then take a damp rag and clean your leather couch with it.
  3. Liquid Stains: The main causes of liquid stains are tea, coffee, or red wine. In this case you have to clean it immediately with a dry rag otherwise it will damage your leather couch. Once the stained area is clean with a rag then clean your leather couch with cleaning solution with a dry rag.
  4. Dark Stains On Light-colored Leather: Sometimes, dark stains are also there on the light-colored leather sofa, in this case, you need to mix equal part of lemon and cream of tartar and apply this on affected area of the couch and leave it to sit for 10-15 minutes. Remove this mixture with a damp cloth and dry it by using a clean cloth.
  5. Homemade Solution: Remember this step & all below given steps are only for conditioning the leather sofa. Make a homemade solution by adding 10-15 drops of lemon juice or tea tree essential oil with 2 cups of white vinegar in a clean water bowl and stir the mixture lightly.
  6. Apply The Solution: After making a homemade mixture, now apply it with a clean rag. Simply dip a corner of a clean rag in the mixture and gently rub the mixture on your leather sofa in a circular motion. Dry your sofa for at least one night.
  7. Buffing: After following all previous steps, now buff your furniture to restore the shine of it. Do this buffing process in small & circular motion. Remember to buff your leather in every six months.
