  • Stepladder
  • Locking Pliers
  • Winding Bars
  • 3/8-Inch Open-End Wrench

Steps For This Process

After collecting all the required items, now you have to follow all the steps carefully to get the best result of your hard work without wasting your precious time:
  • First of all, close your garage door before standing your stepladder at the area of your motor and then unplug the power wire to the opener. Pull down on the emergency release handle to disengage your door from its opener track.
  • Next you need to open your garage door in increments by your hand. If your garage door does not remain open in each position then you need to follow more given steps to balance your door.
  • Now close your door & stand your stepladder at your front wall to access the torsion rod & the tension-spring adjuster at the outer end of your spring.
  • Simply attach the locking pliers perpendicular onto your torsion rod, about 12 inches from its adjuster. The handle of pliers will easily contact your wall or door header and will also avert the bar from turning while doing the balancing adjustment process.
  • Now you need to insert the end of your winding bar into the lower hole on the adjuster of the spring. Also, hold the other end of the bar with your other hand and then loosen all the lock nuts on the spring adjuster with the help of a 3/8-inch open-end wrench. The spring tension will push the winding bar against the upper rail across the door opening. Allow the bar to remain in this position.
  • Now its time to insert the end of your another winding bar into the above hole where you inserted the first bar. Hold the outer end of a winding bar with your one hand. Grip the end of your first winding bar to avert it from falling. Lift the end of your second bar so it can point upward at a 45-degree angle.
  • Next you need to hold upward strength on the end of your winding bar in the upper winding bar until the lower bar will rest against the upper rail.
  • Now, its time to tighten all the lock nuts with the help of a wrench. Use your second bar to rotate your spring adjuster upward enough to remove you lower bar.
  • Finally, raise and lower your door in increments by your hand. Repeat the proceeding if your door does not remain open in any situation. Reengage the emergency release on the track & then plug in your power cord once your garage door is balanced.
