How To Apply Water Based Polyurethane Without Bubbles: Steps To Apply Polyurethane On Wood Floors

General Overview

Polyurethane is the widely used coating that is applied to the wood floors for finishing. It is basically the kind of water-based varnish and needs to be applied in a proper way to avoid complaints like bubbling and puddling as an incorrect application of the Polyurethane may result in the same. Being water based finish Polyurethane is considered a much better option in comparison with the chemical-based solvents. The best advantage of using Polyurethane finish is that it comes with quick drying time and has nontoxic formation.

Simple Steps To Apply Polyurethane On Wood Floors Without Bubbles

Here are the ways to apply the water-based Polyurethane on wood floors without bubbles:

Things Required

  • Sand Paper, Finish Brush
  • Thinning Agent, Tack Cloth
  • Polyurethane, Storage container
  • Cleaning Container

Preparation

  1. Sanding: It is very important to sand the wood floors/ surface first prior application of the Polyurethane using 180 grit sandpaper to make the surface even. Make sure to avoid scratches during sanding on the floor.
  2. Remove Dust: Next step is to make the wood floors/ surface completely dust free to get the satisfactory results. The dust can be removed using tack cloth or another best option to get the job done is to remove the dust using an air compressor with water filler.
  3. Finish Brushes: Ensure to use only good quality finish brushes for application as low-grade brushes will not perform as per the desires.
  4. Application: Dip the brush into the water-based Polyurethane finish and hold it for a while on over the container to remove the excess and apply smoothly over the surface.
  5. Thick Coats: Make sure to apply Polyurethane in thick coats rather than the thin.
  6. Light Sanding: Light sanding is required between the coats i.e., allow the first coat to dry completely and start the light sand process using 220 grit sandpaper and follow up by the next coating.
  7. Dusting: Wiping down the dust is important using a tack cloth or by the wet rag cloth.
