Steps To Finish Wood Floors With Water Based Polyurethane

  1. Vacuuming: The first step to apply the water-based Polyurethane to Wood Floors is to vacuum the area, the purpose of vacuuming is to remove all the dust and dirt from the surface, clean the dust from the corners as well.
  2. Sanding: Once the cleaning is done now it is the time for sanding, sand the old finish carefully. Don't sand the area for a long time, after that check for the splinters or dents.
  3. Repairs: In case of the dents or splinters repair them all before heading towards other step.
  4. Wipe: Once the cleaning and repairing is done, then wipe all the dust with the help of the vacuum, and wipe the area with a lint-free cloth and mineral spirits.
  5. Polyurethane: Now take the Water Based Polyurethane and stir with the help of the stick, and never shake the can of Polyurethane.
  6. Apply: Now load the brush or applicator with the Polyurethane and tap off any excess Polyurethane, start applying from one corner in the direction of the wood grains, for the even coats use the long overlapping strokes.
  7. Dripping: While applying the finish also check for the dripping and correct them before they dry, apply the polyurethane to corners and bends also, then after few minutes check for any missed area.
  8. Second Coat: Once the first coat is completely dried then go for the second coat.
