How To Adjust Automatic Closing Drawers: Runner & Drawer Adjustment Of Automatic Closing Drawers

Runner & Drawer Adjustment Of Automatic Closing Drawers

As the name suggests, automatic closing drawers function automatically & instinctively in order to move the drawer smoothly back into the cabinet. It doesn't have any motor, but only ball bearings that will help the drawer to move back quickly into the cabinet applying only gravity. Self-closing drawers have a tendency to function exceptionally well for many years if you are adjusting them properly. If the installation of a self-closing drawer fails, then the main reason for its failure may be inappropriately & a poorly installed drawer that was put up out of a square. This can result in the drawer angle to one side and failure to close completely. In order to adjust automatic closing drawers, you will only need a screwdriver & rubber mallet, which is optional.

Runner Adjustment

  • Shut The Drawer: First of all, close the drawer as far as it will go without applying force on it. Investigate the spaces betwixt the drawer front and the front of the cabinet. One side will be lined up farther than the other side.
  • Remove The Drawer: Now, remove the drawer from the cabinet and put it aside. Move on towards the cabinet. With the help of a screwdriver, unfastening the screws taking hold of the runner to the back of the cabinet on the side that was lined up the farthest from the cabinet when you checked it.
  • Tap The Runner: Tap the runner till it will go away from the side of the drawer. Oval-shaped holes present in the runner will allow it to move. Fasten the screws tightly before closing the drawer. If it is worse, unfasten the screws and tap the runner in the other direction, and then secure to adjust.
  • Shut The Drawer: Finally, close the drawer. If it is still not able to close, then adjust the runner on the other side with the same technique as long as the drawer glides back into the cabinet smoothly.

Drawer Adjustment

  • Adjust The Drawer: After you have adjusted the runners if the drawers will still not close all the way, then you will need to adjust the drawer first. Take out the drawer from the cabinet. Take the measurement of the box of the drawer only from corner to corner in a diagonal direction both ways. It is likely that one measurement will be longer compared to the other, which in turn means that your drawer is out of square.
  • Stand The Drawer Diagonally: Place the drawer in a diagonal direction on the corner that measured longer. Push down on the drawer by applying a little force. This should adjust the drawer just enough in order to square it back up.
  • Insert The Drawer: Place, fit, or push the drawer back into the cabinet. If it is still not able to close properly, take it out. Apply more force on the corner. It is fine to strike it with a rubber mallet on the corner if that's easier for you. Check and adjust as needed as long as the drawer glides back easily into the cabinet.
