How To Add Shelves To A Closet: Ultimate & Easy Way Of Installation Of Shelves

Ultimate & Easy Way Of Installation Of Shelves To A Closet

One of the easy and best ways to maximize the closet space is by adding shelves. The wire shelving is easy to add to a closet and the steps for installation are mentioned below:
  1. Plan: The first step is to plan the location of the closet and for that the user needs to determine the length of each shelf. Measure out the length across the back wall, and minus about an inch 2.5 cm from both sides where the shelf touches a wall. Next, the user needs to plan the vertical distance between each of the shelves. This will totally depend on what type of items is needed to store.
  2. Cut The Wire Shelves: After the measurement is done then its time to cut out the powder-coated wire shelving, which is available at any hardware stores and retailers as well. To cut out the shelves according to the measured length, either use a hacksaw or a pair of bolt cutters. Before making the cuts measure each of the shelf's length carefully with the help of tape measure.
  3. Mounting Clips: The wire shelves come with the U-shaped mounting clips that can be easily screwed into the wall. To mark down the locations of the studs along the back wall of the closet use a stud finder and a pencil. In order to draw long horizontal lines, use a spirit level and a long piece of scrap wood indicating the position of each of the shelves. The user needs to screw down the mounting clips into the spots where the long lines pass on the studs.
  4. Drill Pilot Holes: At all the marked locations drill the pilot holes for the mounting clips, using a drill bit that should be just smaller in diameter than the screws. The pilot holes must be a little bit deeper than the overall length of the screws. These holes will help to prevent all the mounting screws from binding up and breaking as well.
  5. Screw: After the above steps are done then its time for screwing the mounting clips into the wall. Position each of the mounting clips on the pilot holes that are drilled. Drive drywall screws into each of the holes using the drill. For the best results and stability, the user needs to use the screws having lengths between 1.5 and 2 inches.
  6. Hang The Shelves: Once all the mounting clips are properly installed against the back wall of the closet, clip each length of shelving into clips. The user may have to angle each shelf sharply to get them through the closet door.
  7. Support Poles: Most of the wire shelving systems are supported with the angled braces that will connect the front edges of the shelf to the wall. Simply clip down the front end of support pole on the front railing of the shelf, and for the other end rest it against the wall. Through the screw hole in the support, pole drills a pilot hole and then screw it down. All the support poles should be secured into the studs as well.
