How To Add Molding To Cabinets: Ultimate & Easy Steps To Install Molding

Ultimate & Easy Steps To Install Molding To The Cabinets

Follow the below mentioned ultimate & easy steps in order to add or install molding to the cabinets. You need to go through all the steps carefully to achieve a better result:
  1. Measure The Length: Before starting the installation process, the first step is to know the length of crown molding that will be needed. This can be done by taking a measurement tape to determine the total length of the cabinet tops. Once the length of the cabinet is known, this will help to get the total length of the crown molding needed to purchase. In case the user is the first time working with molding, then its advisable to buy about 20 percent extra length than the required length, the extra is for the mistakes and wasted material.
  2. Guide Fence: Each joint in the cabinet molding will make a compound angle, which means that all the pieces must be mitered for creating the right angle as well as for the beveled to fit against each other. The user can easily achieve the compound angle if they have a miter saw that should be capable of compound cuts or create a guide fence.
  3. Prepare And Install: If the user wishes they can simply nail or even glue the crown molding directly onto the cabinet boxes surface. But for a stronger approach, the user needs to install framing all along the cabinet tops, cut to length and then glue along the top side of the cabinets, it should flush with the edges. The user will apply the molding directly to this framing.
  4. First Length Of Molding: In this step the user needs to cut the butt joint, by simply placing the molding into the miter saw and then make a straight cut. This will be the first length of molding that will butt directly against a wall from one end, the other end will either meet the next piece at an inside or at an outside corner of the cabinet.
  5. Outside Corners: To cut the outside corners simply place the molding in the miter saw and cut at a 45-degree angle. The user needs to remember that there is likely no need to make any adjustments to these cuts so that the joints will fit perfectly, this is because even inexpensive cabinet boxes are almost squared well.
  6. Cut Any Inside Corners: In case the cabinets wrap around an inside corner of the walls that time the user needs to cut an inside corner. This corner needs to be cut in the same manner as it would be for crown molding on the ceilings. Cut One piece into a butt joint and the other one at a 45-degree angle. Use a coping saw for cutting the excess wood.
  7. Fix The Molding: Use the finish nails for nailing down the molding. On each joint apply a small amount of glue and wiping away the excess using a cloth. In case the user wants to fix a strip of framing on cabinets that time drive the nails directly into the frame and if the molding will rest on the ceiling then use the finish nails to install the molding to the ceiling.
