How To Add Fringe To A Rug: Easy Procedure Of Adding Fringe To Different Types Of Rugs

Easy Procedure Of Adding Fringe To Different Types Of Rugs

Generally, a fringe is a portion of a rug that gets very bad or unpleasant, which needs one hundred percent of effort in order to get it cleaned. The first & foremost step when it comes to cleaning a rug fringe is to recognize or distinguish the fiber type. Before moving into the details of raw material, find out whether your rug is hand-woven or machine-woven. For hand-woven rugs, it is highly recommended to get professional help. The majority of the machine-woven rug fringes are composed of either wool or cotton. Wool is a great material in order to hide dirt and debris, while cotton fringes allow or cause stains to be visible as a result of its structure. There are different types of rugs, such as Crocheted Rag Rug, Throw Rug, etc to which you will need to add fringe that can be done easily.

Things You Will Need

  • Fabric
  • Measuring Tape
  • Scissors
  • Crochet Hook
  • Bullion Fringe Trim
  • Household Cement

Adding Fringe To A Crocheted Rag Rug

  • First of all, determine the total number of crocheted stitches through the edges where you are going to attach the fringe.
  • Now, select a kind of cotton fabric that exactly complements or coordinates with your crocheted rug. Trim the fabric into 1-inch-wide strips, and trim each strip into a 15-inch length for each crocheted stitch count.
  • Next, put down the rug on your work surface with the backside positioning up. Fold one rag strip in half, combining with the two cut ends. Put in your crochet hook along one stitch through the rug's edge that you are going to fringe. Take hold of the folded end of the strip with the help of a crochet hook and pull it up along the stitch nearly an inch. Do not take out the hook from the folded loop.
  • Move the hook smoothly over the edge of the stitch and take hold of the strip's two loose ends on the back of the rug. Pull the hook back, taking the loose ends through the folded loop. Pull the ends entirely through the loop in order to cinch the fringe. Continue the same process with the remaining strips in each stitch on the rug's edge.

Bullion Fringe Throw Rug

  • Firstly, put down a purchased "fringeless" throw rug on your work surface with the backside positioning up. Calculate & compute the length of the edges where you are going to attach the fringe.
  • Now, trim a length of coordinating bullion fringe trim for each calculated edge, plus 1 inch. Manage the trimmed fringe with utmost care in order to prevent the ends from unraveling.
  • Next, put or spread a line of household cement on the back of the rug, through the edges that you are going to the fringe. Position the long bound edge of the bullion trim on the cement, letting the width of the fringe extend over the rug's edge, and an even amount of each cut end of the trim extend past the rug's side edges. Gently press the bound edge of the trim into the rug before allowing the cement to dry.
  • Finally, peel off the ends of the excess fringe from each side edge of the rug. The dried adhesive will stop the trim from unraveling.
