How Many Coats Of Stain On Hardwood Floors: Brief Overview

Brief Overview

The users are advised to follow the general rule of the thumb that indicates the dense hardwood floors requires two coats of the stain and the light hardwood floors require only one coat of the stain. The users need to be very careful while applying the stain coats as the many coats of the stain can result in the darker finishes.

Steps To Apply the Stain

The users can easily stain their hardwood floor by following the below-mentioned steps:
  1. Fill Up The Holes: The users need to start by filing up all the holes in the floor by using the wood putty or the wood filler as well.
  2. Use The Sander Machine: The next step is to use the sander machine and rub it all over the entire surface of the hardwood floor to create an even smooth finish. Once the users completed the sanding process then they need to clean the floor by using the vacuum to remove all the dust and the debris particles.
  3. Use The Mineral Spirit: Apply it directly over the entire surface of the hardwood floor and then scrub it by using a soft cloth to clean up the entire hardwood floor.
  4. Use The Wood Conditioner: Apply the base layer of the wood conditioner over the entire surface of the hardwood floor by using the paintbrush. Use the synthetic applicator to expand the wood conditioner to each corner and the sides of the hardwood floor and then allow the hardwood floor to dry completely for near about 2 hours.
  5. Apply The Layer Of Stain: Once the base layer of the hardwood has completely dried the users then need to apply the layer of the stain to the hardwood floor by using the soft rag or the brush as well. Use another soft rag to wipe away all the excess stain from the hardwood floor and then let the hardwood floor to dry completely.
  6. Apply The Two Coats Of Polyurethane: Once the stain coat is completely dried the users then need to apply the layer of the polyurethane to the entire surface of the hardwood floor by using the paintbrush and then let the hardwood floor to dry for near about two hours before applying the second layer of the polyurethane.
