How To Repair A Water-Damaged Hardwood Floor

  1. Gather All The Materials And The Tools: The users need to start by gathering all the tools and the materials they require while performing the procedures like paper towels, Mineral spirits, bleach, Urethane, sandpaper, Pry bar, Hammer, Gloves, mask, buckets, mop, and clean rags as well.
  2. Wear The Gloves And Mask: They need to start by wearing the rubber gloves and the mouth mask to protect themselves from breathing in the hazardous chemicals and the dust as well. After that, they have to open all the windows of the room and turn on the fan or the air conditioner to eliminate the moisture from the hardwood floors.
  3. Make A Bleach Solution: Then they need to make a solution of the bleach and the hot water in a large bucket. After that, they need to soak the mop in the bleach solution and then rub it over the entire surface of the hardwood floor to prevent the growth of the Mildew.
  4. Detach The Hardwood Planks: After that, they need to detach the moisten hardwood plank from the floor by detaching all the nails and then place it in the open air. The users are advised to detach a few more hardwood planks to offer more air to the floor. Then they need to wait until hardwood planks are completely dried.
  5. Reinstall The Hardwood Planks: Once the hardwood planks are completely dried they need to re-install them by using the braid nails or the wood glue as well. After that, they have to use the medium grit sandpaper and rub it smoothly over the entire surface if the hardwood planks to smooth the corners of the planks that were swelled by the water. Then they need to wait for 1 or 2 weeks till the hardwood floor planks are dried completely.
  6. Use The Sandpaper: Then they have to again use the sandpaper to smooth the edges of the hardwood planks accordingly. Then the users need to use the mineral spirit and pour it to the soft cloth. Then they have to rub the hardwood floor with the damp cloth to wipe away all the dirt and the dust particles as well.
  7. Apply The Layer Of Urethane: Once the floor is completely cleaned and dried the users need to apply a layer of the urethane to the entire surface of the hardwood floor accordingly.
