Hardwood Floor Dent Repair: Easy Steps To Repair

Steps To Repair The Dent In Hardwood Floor

To remove the dent from the hardwood floor the users need to gather all the material and tools like paper towel, clothes iron, high-grit sandpaper, and water. The steps are mentioned below to repair the dent in the hardwood floor:

Step 1: Wetting The Wood

  1. Dab The Dent With Water: The users need to put some amount of water on the floor which is having a dent. Cover the dented area with water completely and the sign of pooling determines that the water is being soaked in the dented area.
  2. Place A Damp Paper Towel On Dent: Next step is to take a wet paper towel and remove the extra water from the paper towel by twisting it. Then place the paper towel on the dent, this will help to add extra moisture to the wood and helps to protect the wood from the heat generated by the iron.
  3. Let Water To Soak Into Wood: Leave the water to sit on the floor for about 2 minutes so that the wood can absorb the moisture as much as possible. This will help the wood to become flexible and when the heat is applied the wood expands and the dent removes from the floor.

Step 2: Steaming Out The Dent

  1. Heat A Clothes Iron: Now turn on the iron and set it to the highest setting and wait until it warms up. To work effectively in the area, the iron needs to be hot.
  2. Run The Iron Over Dented Area: Then run the iron on the cloth placed on the dented area. Start to move the iron in slow circular motions. Apply heat until the cloth dries and then at a corner the users can check the progress of the wood. The heat will cause the dented area of the wood to swell.
  3. Rewet The Wood: If the hardwood floor is having deep dents then again wet the cloth and apply heat to the area. Repeat the same process until the dent removes from the floor.

Step 3: Finishing And Protecting The Wood

  1. Let The Wood Dry: After applying the heat wood floor becomes flexible and may get damaged easily. So it is necessary to leave the floor to air dry properly.
  2. Smooth Out The Wood: After drying, the hardwood floor may have flaws and to remove those flaws the users need to take high-grit sandpaper and make the surface of the floor smooth until the floor blends with the remaining wood around the dented area.
  3. Apply Protective Finish: After removing the flaws from the floor surface, take a brush and apply protective finish on the floor surface. This finish will help to protect the floor from bumps and knocks.
  4. Repair Large Dents: To repair deep gouges in the floor the users need to fill the damaged area with lacquer filler or epoxy.
