Refinishing Process
Before starting refinishing the furniture, the customer should wipe it up with mineral spirits which will temporarily reveal the original look of furniture without anything on it rather than a coat of wipe-on clear finish. It will not make any harm to your furniture, however, if it looks good you need to clean its surface and wipe-on oil-based finish on it. If not, then you need to clean it up with soap and water to remove all dirt on it. Liquid Ivory dish soap mixed with water will be a better option for clean up. You need to mix the same amount of solution which you use to wash dishes. Use a sponge and dip it into the solution and wring it out. After that, scrub the surface gently. The paintbrush can be used to clean moldings and carvings. Once you finish scrubbing with soapy water, wrung-out the sponge and clean water from it. After that, dry it out and apply oil-based wipe-on finish on it.
