Framing A Cabinet: Step By Step Guide & Items Required To Frame A Cabinet

Step By Step Guide & Items Required To Frame A Cabinet

The construction of the cabinet starts with having a box-shaped structure that is made up of the plywood. The framed cabinets are the most common types of the cabinet that are having the solid frame at its front that offers stability and integrity to the frame of the cabinet. These kinds of cabinets are suitable for the installation of the door as the frame easily adapts the hinges in a better way than the other unframe cabinets. The users can easily frame any kind of cabinets with simple tools and the right techniques. The users can easily frame a cabinet at home by gathering the below-mentioned materials and then following the below-defined steps:

Materials Required

  • Table Saw With The Miter Gauge, Wood Glue, 1 1/4-Inch Pin Nails
  • Putty Knife, 4 Plywood Pieces, 2 Nylon Strap Clamps
  • 3 Hardwood Pieces, Sandpaper, Pin Nailer
  • Wood Dough And Hand Block

Step 1: Building The Cabinet

  • Raise The Blade: Start by raising the blade over the table saw to near about one and one by four inches. Then the users need to slant the saw blade to near about forty-five degrees and then drift the barrier to within the one by thirty-two inches of contacting the saw blade.
  • Position The Gauge: Then the users need to position the miter gauge over the surface of the table saw. Then they need to fit the gauge to the ninety-degrees and then position one piece of the plywood adjacent to the gauge front at the back of the blade with its edge fastened adjacent to the barrier. Then switch on the table saw and trim the forty-five-degree miter on edges. The users need to trim within the grain and they need to trim all the 4 pieces in this manner.
  • Run The Wood Glue Bead: The users need to run the glue bead on the jointed edges and then they need to position them on its corners. Then they need to bring the jointed edges with one another so as to create the rectangle. After that, place the 2 nylon clamps on the rectangle and then fasten it until all the unneeded glue comes out from the corners.
  • Shoot The 4 Pin Nails: They need to shoot down the 4 pin nails within each one of the corners from the direction by using the pin nailer and the one by four inches sized pin nails. The users are advised to wait for almost 1 hour so as to allow the glue to get dried off completely and then detach the clamps accordingly.

Step 2: Frame The Cabinet

  • Measure The Length: Start by measuring from the longest cabinet side and then use the miter saw to trim down the 2 hardwood pieces as per the measuring length.
  • Run The Wood Glue Bead: The users need to run the wood glue bead on both the corners that they have calculated. Then they need to place the hardwood pieces on the corners and the inner hardwood will easily overhang the corner.
  • Shoot The Pin Nails: Then the users require to shoot the 4 pin nails perpendicular downwards within the pieces of hardwood equally, three by eight inches within the edges to fasten with the hardwood with the plywood cabinet sides.
  • Measure The Distance: Calculate the distance in between the pieces of the hardwood and then trim the 2 pieces as per the calculated length. Then the users need to run the wood glue bead on the leftover sides.
  • Place Two Pieces Between Hardwood: They need to place the 2 pieces tightly in between the other hardwood pieces on the cabinet edge and it needs to be flushed with the outer corner so as to make the entire frame all around the cabinet perimeter.
  • Shoot The Pin Nails: The users need to shoot down the pin nails within it as they did it with the 2 pieces and then they need to cover up the nail holes with the putty by using the putty knife. Then allow the wood glue to get dried off completely for almost 1 hour.
  • Sand Down The Corners: Finally sand down the cabinet by using the fine-grit sandpaper till the corners of the frame become smooth.
