Easy Parts & Steps To apply The Chalk Paint
The users can easily apply the chalk paint to the wood item by following the below-mentioned parts with steps:
First Part: Start By Preparing The Surface
- Clean The wood Surface: The users need to start by cleaning up all the dust and the debris particles from the surface of the wood item by using a soft wet rag. The users can also use the cleaners like Lysol in wiping up all the dust particles.
- Detach The Hardware: If the furniture item consists of any hardware material then they need to detach it by unbinding the screws and then save the removed screws so as to use them again in future.
- Fill Up The Scratches: If the users find out that the furniture item consists of some deep scratches then they need to fill them before proceeding towards the painting process. Use the wood filler material and spread it over the scratched area by using the utility knife and allow the wood filler to get dried off completely. Then use fine-grit sandpaper and rub it over the wood filled area in order to smoothen the surface. Then wipe off the sanding dust with a soft cloth.
Second Part: Apply The Paint
- Select The Paint: The chalk paint usually comes in a huge variety of colors. The users can choose the paint color of their choice but they need to keep one thing in their mind that if they have chosen the dark-toned color finish then they have to apply four layers of the lighter paint.
- Apply The Paint: Once the users have chosen the paint then they need to apply the paint to the wood item and start from the bottom area of the wood item. Allow the first coat of the paint to get dried off completely before applying two more layers of the paint accordingly.
Third Part: Complete The Project
- Apply The Wax: Once the paint layer is completely dried the users then need to apply a layer of the wax by using a soft-bristled brush or can also use the soft cloth. Allow the wax layer to get dried for almost half an hour and once the initial wax layer is dried the users then need to apply one more coat of the wax and then use the soft rag to wipe away the excess wax from the wood surface. Allow the wax to get dried off completely before re-attaching the hardware.
- Re-attach The Hardware: Once the wax coat is completely dried the users then need to re-attach the metal hardware to the furniture item by using the pre-existing screws and nuts.
