DIY Potting Bench From Pallets: Easy Way For Making Potting Bench Out Of Pallets

Easy Way For Making Potting Bench From Pallets

A potting bench is an important piece of furniture needed for all gardeners. It helps to collect all the gardening tools, containers, potting soil, etc all in one place and also makes other gardening activity easier. The step by step way to build a potting bench out of the pallets is mentioned below:
  • Gather Material: It's very important to ensure that all the pallets are of the same type. The user also needs the box of 2 1/2" screws that will help to hold it all together and a 1 1/4" screws that are needed for the pieces of shelving and also the gap fillers used for the top of the bench. Besides that, the user needs some of the tools like a table saw for making the filler boards, circular saw, hammer, pry bar, pliers, tape measure, pencil, clamp, as well as the safety glasses.
  • Preparing: Took one pallet apart completely and then use the slats for fillers as well as the center supports for the front legs as well as for the bottom shelf. Remove every nail from each piece of pallets.
  • Center Support: The user needs to draw a line and cut the other pallet for the center support. Add the center support to the bottom shelf as this will give the user two complete shelves. The top one is larger than the bottom.
  • Strips: The next step is to cut down the strips from the pallet to fill the gaps for the benchtop. As every gap is different in size so the user can use the table saw to cut the strips, rip them for a closer fit.
  • Front Legs: For the front legs offset the front edges and then leave the back edges with each other. Attach the front legs first to the bottom shelf attaching almost 6 inches off the ground and inset. The height of the bench is more comfortable at 3 feet, so this is a spot to attach the top bench, but it must flush to the outside.
  • Back Legs: Set the top height to about 6 feet. The user needs to make sure the bottom shelf is fixed at 6 inches off the ground and the space between the two shelves must be the same to each other. Each of the pallets is 5 inches, and 6 inches off the ground, subtracted from the overall height of the benchtop, this will give the user storage space.
  • Backstop: Adding a backstop to the benchtop is a good thing for that the first pallet must have slats at about a 2-inch height.
  • Upright: It will now start to look like a bench and then add another pallet like 2"x4" to the top. The user can also add screws to the back for holding shovels, pitchforks, etc. It is a good idea to hang the tools off the backside.
  • Top Shelf: Add the top shelf for smaller pots and also add various hooks to hold smaller tools.
