Step By Step Process
- Clean Up Spills: First of all, you need to get rid of the spills as soon as possible with the help of a clean cloth or paper towel. Blot the area, but make sure not to rub or push so hard which will cause excess moisture to soak deep into the fibers. Put or spread a club soda to a clean cloth and then smoothly blot the rug if you feel that the spill may turn into a stain. Dry the area with the help of a hairdryer but make sure to keep it on low setting, or position a fan nearby in order to help it dry faster.
- Vacuum Thoroughly: Vacuum the rug at regular intervals in order to help prevent the dirt from making or become firmly fixed or embedded in a place deep within the fibers. With the help of a dull knife or plastic edge, get rid of any dirt that may have become stuck on the rug, and then vacuum it up.
- Apply Baking Soda: Now, it is time to apply baking soda on the rug and let it sit for the whole night in order to help take in or soak up any lingering odors that may be in the rug. In the next morning, vacuum up the baking soda, before turning over the rug in order to repeat on the other side. Keep the baking soda on the rug for approximately 2-3 hours before removing it.
