7 Easy Steps Of Painting A Ceramic Sink

While a ceramic sink can last for many years but with the overtime, the surface will wear. Rather than removing or installing a new sink, simply refinish or paint the ceramic sink as this will help to restore its original beauty. The user cannot use the standard paint to restore the sink beauty. For that purchase a paint having an epoxy base, that will dry to a smooth, hard finish. Before the user applies the paint, it is important to properly prepare the surface so that the paint and the primer will adhere to it strongly. The easy steps for painting a ceramic sink that are mentioned below:

  1. The first step is to open any of the windows in the room where the work will be done and place up a fan so that it will help to pull the fumes out of the room. There must be proper ventilation while working with the paint.
  2. Thoroughly clean all the areas of the sink with the rags as well as cleaning fluid. Allow the Sink to dry and wipe it out with the help of a dry rag.
  3. Sand down the entire surface of the ceramic sink and remove any of the dust that is left behind using the dry rags. The surface of the sink should be rough otherwise the paint will eventually start peeling.
  4. Cover all the walls using the old newspaper and then use painters tape to mask any of the surfaces that do not need to be painted.
  5. Put on the respirator and then start spraying the entire surface of the sink using the spray primer but in a thin coat. Leave the primer to dry completely then apply another coat. It is advisable not to try to cover up the entire ceramic sink by applying one coat otherwise it will start to bubble and peel away. Many thin coats are better options than a single thick coat. Finally, leave the final coat of the primer to dry for about 3 hours before moving on to the next step.
  6. Now it is time to apply the epoxy-based paint to the primed surface of the sink again by spraying the several thin coats on the surface. For that simply hold down the sprayer approximately about 10 inches away from the surface of the sink while spraying the paint. The first coat must look like it is over-sprayed on the surface. This will help to avoid paint runs. Allow each of the coats to dry for one hour before moving on to the next coat.
  7. Allow the paint to dry for at least 8 hours or more after the last coat is done. For a shiny surface, it is important to apply a polyurethane topcoat once the paint has been thoroughly dried. Leave each topcoat to dry for about an hour before applying the next one.
