Directions And Tools Needed For Removing Cylinder From Chair

The seats on most of the chairs like the office chairs tend to get sink after a few years of use, but the user doesn’t need to worry, as there is no need to buy a whole new chair, there are most chances that the gas cylinder in the chair is the only part which needs to be replaced. The direction & tools needed for removing the cylinder from a chair is shown below:

Tools Needed

  • One Rubber Mallet
  • One Pipe Wrench Or Vice Grip.
  • One New Chair Cylinder

Directions For Removing Cylinder From Chair

  1. Separate The Old Cylinder: Start the process by removing the old cylinder from the base of the chair. For this, the chair needs to turn on its side and then gently tap the base away from the chair with the help of rubber mallet.
  2. Tightly Secure The Wrench: Near the top of the old cylinder the user needs to tightly secure the wrench and then twist it all the way until it will release from the mechanism. If in case the user doesn’t have access to a pipe wrench, that time they can release the mechanism from the chair simply by unscrewing the main bolts that are on the bottom of the seat. Then with the help of the rubber mallet again tap the mechanism away from the chair.
  3. Lubrication: If there is trouble in getting the chair apart, then simply apply some lubrication like WD40 to the mechanism and then leave it to sit for a few minutes before trying the process again. But it is advisable to protect the surrounding surfaces as well as the chair fabrics before doing this.
  4. New One Cylinder: After removing the old chair cylinder properly, then replace it with the new one. Simply pop up the cylinder in the base of the chair and lift them both at the same time into the mechanism.
  5. Set The Chair: Finally the user needs to carefully set the chair in the upright position and then take a seat. Fasten back all parts together.

Important Tips

  • If the user wants to re-use the cylinder, that time be sure to protect it with a rag.
  • The cylinder is not screwed on, so loosen it until it can be pulled out of the base.
  • Be sure that the surface is covered, as well as the floor is protected. And stand back so that the cylinder doesn’t hit the feet.
  • If the rubber mallet will not work, then use a hammer. But it is important to remember that the hammer may damage the cylinder.
