Easy Steps & Items Needed To Build The Wall Mounted Bookshelves

If you want to build wall mounted bookshelves at home, you can do so easily. The users can build the wall mounted bookshelves themselves by simply gathering the below-described materials and then following the below-described steps:

Materials Required

  • 10' Of 1X10 Lumber & 1/4" Drywall Screws
  • 1/2" Deck Screws & Carpenter's Glue
  • Angle Brackets, Wood Paint & Small Brush
  • Measuring Tape, Stud Finder & Square
  • Screwdriver, Hammer & Circular Saw
  • Sandpaper & Drill Bits

Steps

  1. Design: The users need to start by making the exact design of their bookshelves by calculating the measurements of the wall where they want to place their desired bookshelves.
  2. Trim The Pieces: Once the users have taken all the measurements then they need to trim the lumber into the following size dimensions:
    • 3 inch long for building the base
    • 3 inches long for building the back
    • 10 1/2" long for building the right and the left end and then at last 9 inches long for building the divider accordingly by using the circular saw.
  3. Drill The Holes: Then the users need to drill the pilot holes as per their measured length so that they can easily affix the drywall screws as these screws are mainly used to offer the immense strength to the bookshelf structure.
  4. Affix The Pieces: Once the users trimmed all the pieces of the lumber then they need to affix the back, base and the divider piece accordingly. The users need to use the wood glue at the joint surfaces and then attach the drywall screws so as to affix the 2 pieces together. Then strengthen up the base piece with the back piece by using the 3 angle brackets so as to offer the extra strength. Then affix the piece of divider by using the glue to the base and the back piece and then affix it by using the drywall screws on each of its sides. Then clean up the unneeded wood glue by using the paper towel.
  5. Affix The End Pieces: The users need to repeat the same procedure while affixing the end piece usually by applying the wood glue at the intersection points and then affixing these pieces by using the drywall screws. Then allow the glued piece to dry for almost 6 hours.
  6. Apply The Paint: Once the wood glue is dried then the user needs to sand down its rough edges by using the sandpaper or the electric sander and then clean up the sanding dust by using the tack cloth. Then they need to apply the layer of the primer over the entire surface by using the soft paintbrush and then allow it to dry completely. Once the primer layer is dried off completely the users need to apply the paint layer all over the surface and then allow it to dry before mounting the bookshelf to the wall.
  7. Mount The Bookshelf: Before fixing it with the wall the users need to use the stud finder so as to locate the location of the studs and once they are located the users then need to use the long screw with the washer so as to affix down its one side and then after that use the level to check the level of the bookshelf. Then affix the second side in the same pattern and for the additional support the users are advised to affix the other screw set just beneath the first screw sets respectively.
