Attaching 4X4 Table Legs: Two Easy Methods To Attach 4X4 Table Legs

Two Easy Methods To Attach 4x4 Table Legs

Attaching legs to a table is a simple process. The configuration, shape, and size of the leg are not critical if the user will apply the proper technique. Fresh pair of legs can transform almost any old tabletop. There are a number of different mechanisms that can be used to attach table legs. In order to attach 4x4 table legs, go through the below-mentioned methods carefully:

Method 1: Single-Post Legs

  1. Apply the glue exactly at the top of the table leg. After that, center a 3/4-by-4-by-4-inch piece of the plywood on top of the leg. Nail two, 1 1/4-inch pin nails into the plywood to attach it with the top of the leg. Drill the three pilot holes, but evenly centered in the triangular pattern, into the plywood with the help of a 3/16-inch drill bit and drill or the driver.
  2. Place the 2-inch screws in the holes that are drilled. Drive-in them tight enough in a way so that the head of the screw sinks-in slightly below the plywood surface. The leg must look like a T. Drill 2 holes again evenly spaced, through the plywood from each of the sides on the extended edges of the plywood. For that use a drill or the driver, having a 3/16-inch bit.
  3. Flip the tabletop upside down and then position the T-shaped leg upside down exactly on the bottom of the table, make sure they are flush at one corner. Insert the 1 1/4-inch screw in the holes all around the perimeter of the plywood. To secure the leg with the bottom of the table drive the screws tight. Perform the same process for all the four legs.

Method 2: Panel-Type Legs

  1. In this method, first of all, measure the width of the leg panel & then take a miter saw to cut the one piece of the 4 by 4 inch-wide hardwood plywood exactly to the measurement.
  2. Apply a bead of the glue all along the top of the leg panel. Position the plywood at the center on the top edge of the panel, also make sure they are flush on both ends. Now shoot 4 pin nails into the plywood to attach it to the panel.
  3. Drill the 4 pilot holes into the plywood, evenly spaced as well as centered, with the help of a drill and 3/16-inch bit. Insert the 2-inch screws in the drilled holes and drive-in the screws tight.
  4. Drill the 4 3/16-inch pilot holes, both the sides also spaced evenly, into the extended edges of the plywood.
  5. Turn the tabletop in a way so that the upside becomes down. Position the leg, keep the plywood-side down, exactly on the bottom of the table, around 6 inches from the end. Position 1 1/4-inch screw into the holes. Drive-in them tight to attach the leg with the bottom of the table.

Tip

The user can apply the wood glue at the point where the plywood will contact the table if needed, but if the user ever wants to replace the leg, that time the glue makes it difficult to remove.
