Steps to Restore Dried out Wicker Furniture

Wicker furniture is mostly used at outdoor places and wicker furniture pieces are more delicate than various other patio furniture pieces of similar nature. If wicker furniture is exposed to excessive environmental changes such as wind, sunlight, or indoor dry environment, it may cause the wicker furniture to dry out and crack that can be restored by following the below-given steps:

1. Vacuum The Wicker Furniture:
   The first step will be to vacuum the entire wicker furniture thoroughly by using a bristle attachment on to the vacuum. The user needs to make sure that he removes dust from tight crevices and weaves as well.
2. Wipe Down The Wicker Using Solution:
   After that, the user needs to prepare a solution by mixing a mild detergent with water. Once the suds are settled, the user needs to dip the clean cloth into the mixture and wipe down the whole wicker furniture with it carefully. In order to remove tough dirt & stains from the wicker furniture, the user needs to rub the spots with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Once done, he can rinse the wicker using clean rag and water.
3. Clean Mildew:
   The next step will be to prepare a solution by mixing 4 cups of water and 1/4 cup of bleach together. After that, the user needs to dip the soft-bristle toothbrush into the solution and then clean all the mildew present on the wicker furniture. Once the step is complete, the user needs to rinse the wicker using a clean rag and water.
4. Let The Wicker Dry:
   After the wicker furniture is properly cleaned, the user needs to let it air dry by placing the wicker furniture outdoors on a breezy or sunny day, or else in a well-ventilated area. The drying should take around 48 hours.
5. Polish The Furniture:
   In the next step, the user needs to buff the wicker furniture from top to bottom using a clean cloth wetted with furniture polish. During the step, the user needs to focus more on the areas exposed to sunlight, areas that are drier than others along with weaves & crevices of wicker furniture.
6. Refinish The Wicker (Alternate):
   Alternatively, wicker furniture can be refinished instead of polishing. Refinishing rehydrates the wicker and provides it a protective layer that prevents the furniture from deteriorating in the future. In order to seal unfinished wicker, the user can apply a coat of waterproof sealant on to it. It has been recommended by the experts to use spray products or a dense brush application for better results. The user needs to refinish the wicker out of direct sunlight and according to the manufacturer instructions.
7. Refinish Painted Wicker:
   In Case of painted wicker, the user can refinish it by applying a liquid sanding product as per the directions of the manufacturer.
8. Let The Finish Dry:
   The last step will be to let the finish dry for about 6 days. The user needs to apply liquid furniture wax on to the wicker furniture in order to seal the new finish that will protect the wicker from drying out again.
